The mission of Zigen Fund is to promote educational, social and economic development in the impoverished areas of China. It operates under the spirit of people to people assistance, with mutual respect and understanding. It provides a means of active participation for individuals who are willing and eager to contribute towards the effort of improving people's livelihood in the less advantaged regions of society. The Zigen Fund's grants, which range from $200 to $10000, target people in poor and remote regions of China. The projects are small and manageable, encouraging local initiative and emphasizing basic needs.
The Zigen Fund was founded in New York in 1988, and registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the United States. The organization began its fund raising and project supports in rural China beginning in 1989. The Zigen Fund relies on a wide network of volunteers in many cities and states in the United States for its fund raising, administrative and project selection and coordination activities. I am a member of the board of directors since 1993. For more information about the organization, visit www.zigen.org.
